EDUCATION CHAT is an innovation involves creating child friendly platforms within the school where pupils meet with teachers, their leaders and IMS volunteers on a termly basis to identify, discuss and share issues encountered during the term, which if not addressed may affect their academic performance, attendance and retention. The purpose of Education chats is to mitigate school dropout cases by using a student engagement friendly strategy to understand potential risk drivers.
The Education Chat innovation supports the SUCCESS program by contributing to generating and understanding dropout risk drivers that may have not been identified with the dropout checkpoint assessment.
Issues and recommendations raised by pupils are shared with relevant stakeholders i.e. teachers, school administrators, parents and local leaders. An action plan is made to address the issues raised before subsequent Retention Chat sessions.
On an annual basis, all issues raised from termly Education Chats [from all participating schools] will be published in an annual at-risk students report that will be disseminated at national level targeting ministry of education, local leaders, policy makers, donors, parents and implementing partners at National level with the purpose of bringing them on board to collective mitigate potential academic setbacks and school dropout incidents before they eventually force pupils out of school.
