SUCCESS [Students with Urgent needs for Comprehensive and Continuous Education Support for School retention] is a student/child, parents, UPE school-community partnership aimed at reducing rates of school dropout and out of school among primary school going in rural and urban slum Universal Primary Schools with highest school dropout burden. The SUCCESS program strategy involves establishing early warning systems in schools with high dropout rates using the IMS dropout checkpoint approach for early identification and monitoring of pupils at-risk of dropping out of school, and building capacity of teachers to implement the model. The program use data to understand the multiple factors putting pupils at-risk of dropping out and identifying areas of intervention. Working in partnership with the school, parents, pupils, IMS dropout officers and the pupils, identified SUCCESS students [at-risk pupils] are surrounded with a comprehensive individualized package of school dropout prevention [risk reduction] interventions at individual, school, family and community level to ensure that the SUCCESS student receives all necessary support to stay, succeed in school and achieve his/her dreams.
The SUCCESS program was launched in April 2022, being piloted in Kyotera, Rakai and Kampala slums with plans of scaling it to other schools and districts with high cases of school dropout.
